Instead of bustling with students, faculty, staff, and visitors, the campus was deserted on this beautiful fall day. Empty sidewalks. Vacant parking lots. Shuttered buildings. The long walk I took that day was simultaneously invigorating because of the sunshine and warmth and devastating because of the emptiness and silence.
